Dear Colleagues,
Trust you are doing well and staying safe. Recently a new research center was established in Korea at Seoul National University, "Center for the Gravitational-Wave Universe" (PI: Prof. Hyung Mok Lee) to research astrophysics and cosmology with gravitational waves.
The center aims to promote multi-messenger astronomy including a new facility called 7DT (7-dimensional telescope) which is composed of a large number (~20) of 50-cm telescope equipped with imaging cameras and 40 medium-band filters in order to obtain low resolution of spectra for all objects in the field.
There are five immediate postdoctoral positions available to join this new established center. The location of the works could depend on the collaborating senior members: Seoul National University (Hyung Mok Lee [hmlee snu.ac.kr], Myungshin Im [myungshin.im gmail.com]), KASI in Daejeon (Lucas Uhm [uhm kasi.re.kr], Arman Shafieloo [shafieloo kasi.re.kr]), Ewha Womans University in Seoul (Chunglee Kim [chunglee.kim ewha.ac.kr] ), or POSTECH in Pohang (Jae-Hun Jung [jung153 postech.ac.kr]).
The preferred areas of research of the candidates include (Senior members in parentheses)
- Gravitational wave physics and data analyses (Hyung Mok Lee, Chunglee Kim)
- Cosmology with gravitational waves (Arman Shafieloo)
- Modeling of gamma-ray bursts and kilonovae (Lucas Uhm)
- Construction of the 7DT, data acquisition and analysis (Myungshin Im)
- Application of artificial intelligence for massive time-domain data (Jae-Hun Jung)
The positions will be for 2 years, renewable upon mutual agreement and availability of funds. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in astronomy, physics, or a related field by the date of the appointment.
Candidates should provide a cover letter, Curriculum Vitae including publications list, statements of technical and/or research interests, and contact information for three references to:
Prof. Hyung Mok Lee e-mail: hmlee snu.ac.kr
Application Deadline is soon on Monday, November 15, 2021. Positions are immediately available but the starting date is negotiable. I do appreciate it if you let those who might be interested know about these positions. If applicants have any questions they can directly contact Prof. Hyung Mok Lee or any of the senior collaborators of the center.
best wishes, Arman Shafieloo
