why?

Purpose: stimulate discussion and understanding each other's cosmo/extragal research, but also include astronomers/students not directly involved in cosmo research projects, in order to encourage general information flow.

how?

Format:

• very short talks, maximum 5 minutes, explained in a simple way, related to cosmology/extragalactic astronomy in some way, e.g.
  • your own research
  • an astro-ph article
  • a printed journal article
  • a cosmology announcement in the govt/corporate media
  • a web site about cosmology
  • software you think is useful
  • something else - use your imagination!

• in each case hopefully followed by questions, discussion

• język/language: wyb?r wolny/free choice

• the list of topics may be decided "on the spot", or people with

Comments:

• having very short talks encourages
  • a variety of speakers
  • possible cross-fertilisation of randomly chosen ideas
  • more likely to concentrate on questions and discussion
  • people won't get bored
  • more likely to have spontaneous ideas
  • practice in going straight to a key idea and explaining it in simple words

• the time limit of one hour means that people know this won't take up

their whole day; those people more interested, and with more time, can hang around for the research meeting.

who?

Participation:

This should be of interest to all TCfA staff and astronomy students, though there will probably be a core group mostly of cosmo/extragal people.
